In 2025, Kazakhstan had 19,588 food service establishments, an increase of 17.5% compared with the previous year, according to the Bureau of National Statistics.

In 2024, there were 16,674 registered food service establishments in the country.

The largest number of food service establishments is concentrated in Almaty, with 3,522, followed by Astana with 2,761 and Karaganda Region with 1,275.

The number of restaurants showed notable growth over the year, increasing by 666 establishments to reach 3,024.

The number of canteens grew by 5.7%, from 5,618 to 5,940. At the same time, the most significant increase was recorded among cafés: their number rose from 5,202 to 5,987, or by 15.1%.

Astana leads in the number of restaurants, with 654 establishments. Almaty ranks second with 602, followed by West Kazakhstan Region with 248 restaurants.

Among cafés, Almaty has the largest number of establishments, with 1,036, followed by Astana with 809 and Karaganda Region with 485.

The total volume of services in the food service and beverage sector amounted to 2.1 trillion tenge in 2025.
