Kazakhstan Records a Sharp Increase in Investment in the Retail Sector
Kazakhstan continues to demonstrate positive dynamics in attracting investment into the retail sector and related industries. According to the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, investment in these areas amounted to KZT 637.2 billion in January–July 2026, representing a 22.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
Growth in investment activity was recorded across several regions of the country. The highest growth rates were observed in the North Kazakhstan and Karaganda regions, Shymkent, Kostanay Region, Abai Region, Mangystau Region, and Almaty.
Almaty remains one of the country’s major centers of investment activity. During the first seven months of 2026, the city attracted KZT 204.3 billion in investment. A significant volume of investment was also recorded in Turkistan Region, amounting to KZT 88.7 billion.
By type of economic activity, the largest share of investment went to wholesale and retail trade, totaling KZT 246.6 billion. Significant investments were also directed toward financial and insurance activities, real estate rental and management, as well as building maintenance and landscaping services.
The growth in investment reflects the continued development of retail infrastructure and the expansion of modern retail formats in Kazakhstan. New investments may contribute to the development of commercial real estate, the creation of new retail facilities, and expanded opportunities for businesses.
The Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with local executive bodies, continues to work on attracting investment, supporting projects, and creating conditions for the further development of modern retail infrastructure across the country.
