Fiscalisation of trade intensifies: receipt turnover in Kazakhstan rises by 18%

Kazakhstan has recorded a significant increase in the number of fiscal receipts issued and total turnover, indicating a gradual formalisation of business revenues, reports Uchet.kz, citing an interview with Zhanibek Nurzhanov, Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee.

According to the SRC, entrepreneurs issued 657 million receipts in January–February 2026 compared to 555 million in the same period of the previous year, marking an 18% increase. In monetary terms, turnover grew from KZT 4.2 trillion to KZT 5.1 trillion, representing growth of nearly 20%.

The authorities note that the trend may be driven not only by expanding retail turnover but also by businesses moving out of the shadow economy and improving tax compliance. Nurzhanov stated that entrepreneurs have been registering sales more actively amid changes in special tax regimes.

From the beginning of 2026, Kazakhstan introduced a number of tax administration reforms, including the abolition of the retail tax regime, which had been popular among small businesses. Tax regimes based on patents and fixed deductions were also discontinued and integrated into broader categories.

In particular, the new special tax regime for self-employed individuals now consolidates former patent taxpayers and users of the E-Salyq mobile application. The updated simplified declaration regime incorporates certain elements of previous systems, raising the income threshold while tightening deduction requirements for counterparties.

The tax reform is aimed at simplifying administration and increasing transparency in business operations.
